The Bluefield, WV police department has announced the funeral arrangements for Lt. Aaron Crook, who was killed in an accident on Tuesday morning.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 2 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Brushfork National Guard Armory in Bluefield, WV. Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m. That will also be at the Brushfork armory. The burial will take place at Restwood Memorial Park in Hinton, WV.
Officers and community members are remembering a Lieutenant who was killed during a police chase in Bluefield on May 30, 2017. Bluefield resident Danny Culver offers his condolences to the Bluefield Police Department after Lt. Aaron Crook was killed and 3 other officers were injured during a police chase.
Culver said, “I’ve called for assistance over the years and several times Officer Crook responded to the call. He was a good guy, good officer. I hate to see it happen.”
Bluefield Police Chief Dennis Dillow said Lt. Crook made it through all the ranks and was there for 9 years. He was recently promoted to Lt.
Dillow said, “I knew that when I wasn’t here and he was in command that things were just as safe as they could be because he cared about this community and he cared about the people in it.”
Dillow said they plan on having a memorial picture placed on the wall for Lt. Crook at the department. Dillow said his family is asking for privacy.
Dillow said, “I would like just to remind everyone to keep his family in your prayers. Keep the other men that was here that were injured that night in your prayers. We would like to thank the community for all that they’ve done for us. They’ve been so supportive. They fed us some has come and cried with us. They just been very wonderful to us.”
The other officers who were injured are Officer Joseph Danieley, Officer Mark Filer and West Virginia State Trooper Filer. They have been treated and released and will make a full recovery but Dillow said they will.have a long healing process mentally.
Officials have also identified the man involved in the fatal police crash. Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler confirmed that Morgan Walker was the suspect police were pursuing. Walker is charged with DUI Causing Death With Reckless Disregard and Obstruction. Walker is being held in the Southern Regional Jail on $50,000 bond. Funeral arrangements have been announced for Lt. Crook. Visitation will be on Friday June 2, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm at the Brushfork National Guard Armory. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11:00 am at the Brushfork National Guard Armory. Burial will take place at Restwood Memorial Park in Hinton.
